BISOCOR

This medicine contains the active ingredient Bisoprolol which belongs to the group of medicines known as beta-blockers. It works by blocking beta-adrenergic receptors in your heart and the heart is then beating evenly and more slowly.  Bisoprolol is also used in treatment of high blood pressure and angina pectoris (chest pain).

Is Bisoprolol suitable for me?

Bisoprolol is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it if you

• are allergic to Bisoprolol or to other ingredients of this medicine
• have asthma or chronic lung disease
• have severe blood circulation problem in your limbs (such as Raynaud’s syndrome)
• have a tumor of the adrenal gland (phaeochromocytoma)
• have too much acid in the blood
• have very low blood pressure
• have a slow or irregular heart rate

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

• are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breast-feeding
• have diabetes
• are fasting from solid food
• have any heart problems
• have any liver or kidney problems
• are going to be given a general anesthetic during an operation
• are taking verapamil or diltiazem, medicines used to treat heart conditions
• have (or have had) psoriasis (a recurring skin rash)
• have a thyroid problem

Bisoprolol interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Bisoprolol?

This medicine is available in form of a tablet and a film-coated tablet.

You should take Bisoprolol exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.

The usual dose is one tablet a day, and the strength of a tablet will be prescribed according to your condition and needs. The lowest dose for chest pain and high blood pressure is 5 mg, and the highest is 20 mg once a day. For other conditions usual maximum dose is 10 mg per day.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Do not miss any doses and take the medicine at the same time each day. Like all medicines Bisoprolol can cause side effects, including:

• slow heartbeat

Common side effects:

• cold hands and/or feet
• numbness of hands and/or feet
• low blood pressure
• feeling sick, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation
• tiredness, feeling weak, dizziness
• headache
