Product information

This medicine contains the active ingredient budesonide which belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids. Corticosteroids are a group of medicines that have a strong local and weak systemic effect. Budesonide is used for allergic rhinitis (the internal part of the nose is inflamed and irritated), vasomotor rhinitis (inflammation of the nasal mucosa of non-allergic origin) and nasal polyps (benign formations on the mucous membranes of the nose).

Is Budesonide suitable for me?

Budesonide is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

  • if you are allergic to budesonide or to other ingredients of this medicine
  • if you have an infection in your nose

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

o   have or had tuberculosis

o   have a serious bacterial, viral, or fungal infection

o   have cirrhosis or other liver disease

o   are pregnant, or breastfeeding

Budesonide interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Budesonide?

This medicine is available in form of a nasal spray.

You should take budesonide exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.

  • The usual starting dose is either two sprays into each nostril every morning, or one spray into each nostril two times a day.
  • After the reduction of symptoms the doctor will prescribe a maintenance dose, which is typically 1 spray into each nostril twice a day or 2 sprays into each nostril once a day in the morning. 
  • The duration of treatment depends on your needs.  

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Budesonide side effects?

Like all medicines budesonide can cause side effects, including:

Common side effects:

  • bad taste
  • coughing
  • headache
  • hoarseness
  • nasal irritation or dryness
  • nausea
  • sore throat
  • tightness in the lungs
  • slight bleeding from the nose
