DEKSALGIN

This medicine contains the active ingredient dexketoprofen which is also called a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), or just 'anti-inflammatory'. NSAIDs are used to ease pain, stiffness and inflammation of conditions that affect muscles, bones and joints. Dexketoprofen relieves pain and swelling of the treated area. Dexketoprofen is used for the treatment of painful and inflammatory conditions associated with the joints, tendons, ligaments and muscles. Dexketoprofen, as well as other NSAIDs, eases pain and inflammation by blocking the production of chemicals called ‘prostaglandins’, which are produced at sites of injury or damage.

Is Dexketoprofen suitable for me?

Dexketoprofen is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

• if you are allergic to dexketoprofen, other NSAIDs or other ingredients of this medicine
• if you are allergic to aspirin or its derivatives or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (such as ibuprofen);
• if you plan to apply gel on the eye or eye area, mucous membranes (mouth, nose and genitals), open wounds or broken skin, such as in the case of limited purulent inflammation of the skin, ulcers or tumors;
• if you intend to expose treated areas to sun, UV rays (solarium) during treatment and two weeks after discontinuation of treatment.
• if you are in the last trimester of pregnancy

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

• are pregnant or breastfeeding
• it is meant for the child under 12 years
• it should not be applied to damaged skin (open wounds or diseased skin), the mucous membranes and eyes

Dexketoprofen interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Dexketoprofen?

This medicine is available in form of a gel.

You should take dexketoprofen exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.

• Usually, you should apply thin layer to the affected area two or three times daily.
• The used amount of gel depends on the surface area to which the gel is applied.
• The total daily dose should not exceed 7.5 g per day, which corresponds to approximately 14 cm of gel. The treatment should last a maximum of 7 days.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Do not apply two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Dexketoprofen side effects?

Like all medicines dexketoprofen can cause side effects, including:

Uncommon side effects:

• dermatitis (redness and inflammation of the skin)

Rare side effects (less than 1 in 1,000 people):

• bullous eczema (eczema with blisters)
• phlyctenular eczema (eczema on the face and neck which are the cause of phlycten or clusters of cells on the cornea)

Very rare side effects (less than 1 out of 10,000 people):

• hives (rash with itching)
• difficulty breathing

Frequency unknown:

• redness and swelling of the skin
• formation of bubbles on the skin
