AVIOMARIN

This medicine contains the active ingredient dimenhydrinate, which belongs to a group of medicines called antihistamines. This medicine is used for the prevention and treatment of nausea, vomiting and / or dizziness associated with motion sickness; prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting caused by other factors (except when taking chemotherapeutic agents for the treatment of cancer).

Is Dimenhydrinate suitable for me?

Dimenhydrinate is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

• if you are allergic to dimenhydrinate or to other ingredients of this medicine
• in the case of an acute asthmatic attack
• in the case of narrow angle glaucoma
• if you have pheochromocytoma
• if you have prostate hypertrophy
• if you have convulsions (epilepsy, eclampsia)
• if it is meant for children under 5 years old
• if you have porphyria (a rare blood disease)

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

• are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding
• have pyloric stenosis
• suffer from cardiac dysrhythmia, bradycardia, hypertension
• have chronic respiratory disorders, asthma
• have prostate problems
• have liver problems
• have cardiac disorders (coronary heart disease, circulatory disorders, arrhythmias)

Dimenhydrinate interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Dimenhydrinate?

This medicine is available in form of a tablet.

You should take dimenhydrinate exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.

• For the prevention of nausea and vomiting: Adults and children over 14 years: 50-100 mg (1-2 tablets); Children aged 5-14 years: 25 mg to 50 mg (½ - 1 tablet). If necessary, the dose may be taken again, every 4-6 hours.
• For the treatment of nausea and vomiting: Adults and children over 14 years: 50-100 mg (1-2 tablets) every 4 to 6 hours if necessary; the maximum dose is 400 mg per day. Children aged 5-14 years: 25 mg to 50 mg (½-1 tablet) every 6-8 hours if necessary; the maximum dose is 150 mg per day.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Dimenhydrinate side effects?

Like all medicines dimenhydrinate can cause side effects, including:

Very common:

• extreme tiredness
• drowsiness, dizziness
• muscle weakness

Common:

• blurred vision, increased intraocular pressure
• nasal congestion
• nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, dry mouth
• micturition disorders
• paradoxical reaction to the medication, tremors
• mood changes, anxiety, insomnia

Rare:

• tachycardia
