This medicine contains the active ingredient Dipyridamole which belongs to the group of medicines known as anti-thrombotic agents or anti-coagulants. These medicines impede the formation of blood clots (thrombus) which can cause stroke or heart attack by blocking the blood vessel. Dipyridamole is prescribed for the same reason, especially after the replacement of heart valves, after heart bypass surgery and when other anti-coagulants have not worked.

Is Dipyridamole suitable for me?

Dipyridamole is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

• if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Dipyridamole or any of the other ingredients of this medicine

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

• have angina or other heart problems, or have had a heart attack
• have blood clotting problems
• have low blood pressure 
• have myasthenia gravis (muscle problem)
• have left ventricular outfl­ow obstruction
• have hardening of the main artery just below the heart valves
• have problems with blood clotting
• have heart failure
• have migraines
• are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Dipyridamole interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Dipyridamole?

This medicine is available in form of a film-coated tablet.

You should take Dipyridamole exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. The usual dose for adults is 300 to 600 mg divided in three or four doses. The usual dose for children is 5 mg per kg bodyweight divided in three or four doses. The dose should be taken at least 30 minutes before a meal. Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Also, this medicine works best if there is a constant amount in the blood. To help keep this amount constant, do not miss any doses and take the medicine at the same time each day. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose. What are Dipyridamole side effects?

Like all medicines Dipyridamole can cause side effects, including:

Common side effects:

• lowering of blood pressure 
• dizziness
• headache
• feeling sick, diarrhea
• hot flushes

Uncommon:

• chest pain and heartbeat problems 
• fainting 
• being sick
• rash
