This medicine contains the active ingredient Pentaerythrityl tetranitrate, which belongs to the group of organic nitrates. This medicine is prescribed for prevention and long-term treatment of chest pain caused by circulatory disturbances in the coronary vessels (angina pectoris). This medicine is not suitable for the treatment of acute attacks of angina.

Is Pentaerythrityl tetranitrate suitable for me?

Pentaerythrityl tetranitrate is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

  • If you are allergic to Pentaerythrityl tetranitrate or other ingredients of this medicine
  • If you have had a head injury
  • If you have had a brain hemorrhage
  • If you have anemia (a decrease in red blood cells)
  • If you have hypotension (low blood pressure) or hypovolemia (lack of circulating fluid)
  • If you have experienced an acute myocardial infarction (heart attack)
  • If you are taking medication from the group of phosphodiesterase type 5 (medicines for potency)

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

  • have postural hypotension (drop in blood pressure in taking up position)
  • are treated with diuretics
  • are elderly
  • have a gastric hypermotility or malabsorption syndrome (disorders of the digestive tract)
  • suffer from other heart diseases
  • suffer from hyperthyroidism (increased function of the thyroid gland)
  • have elevated levels of intracranial pressure (pressure within the skull)
  • are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding

Pentaerythrityl tetranitrate interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Pentaerythrityl tetranitrate?

This medicine is available in form of a modified-release tablet.

You should take Pentaerythrityl tetranitrate exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. The usual dose is one 80 mg tablet taken 2 to 3 times per day. Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Also, this medicine works best if there is a constant amount in the blood. To help keep this amount constant, do not miss any doses and take the medicine at the same time each day. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose. Like all medicines Pentaerythrityl tetranitrate can cause side effects, including:

Common:

  • nausea
  • vomiting
