This medicine contains the active ingredient propafenone, which is also known as anti-arrhythmic medicine. Propafenone is used to restore the control of the uneven heartbeats, which are called arrhythmias by reducing the inflow of sodium ions into the cardiac muscle cells, causing a decrease in excitability of the cells. It corrects the rhythm of the heart and slows it if it is beating too fast.

Is Propafenone suitable for me?

Propafenone is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it if

• you are allergic (hypersensitive) to propafenone or any other ingredients
• you have heart failure or any heart problems other than abnormal heart rhythm
• you have myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness)

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

• have heart failure
• have liver problems
• are pregnant or planning to become pregnant or breast feeding
• have any problems with your lungs or have asthma
• have a pacemaker or implantable cardioverter defibrillato
• have low amounts of potassium in your blood

Propafenone interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Propafenone?

This medicine is available in form of a film-coated tablet.

You should take propafenone exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.

• The usual dose is between 150 and 300 mg taken three times a day.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Also, this medicine works best if there is a constant amount in the blood. To help keep this amount constant, do not miss any doses and take the medicine at the same time each day. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Propafenone side effects?

Like all medicines propafenone can cause side effects, including:

• constipation or diarrhea
• bloating
• feeling sick
• retching
• vomiting
• loss of appetite
• abdominal pain
• fainting
• ataxia (problems with coordination)
• chest pain
• dizziness
• headaches
• blurred vision
• feeling tired
• dry mouth
• a bitter taste in the mouth
• hypotension (low blood pressure)
