XARELTO

This medicine contains of the active ingredient Rivaroxaban which belongs to the group of medicines known as anti-thrombotic agents or anti-coagulants. These medicines impede the formation of blood clots (thrombus) which can cause stroke or heart attack by blocking the blood vessel. Rivaroxaban is prescribed for the same reason, especially for the prevention of blood clots in the brain (stroke) and other blood vessels if you have an irregular heart rhythm called non-valvular atrial fibrillation, for the treatment of blood clots in the veins of your legs (deep vein thrombosis) and in the blood vessels of your lungs (pulmonary embolism), and to prevent blood clots from re-occurring in the blood vessels of your legs and/or lungs.

Is Rivaroxaban suitable for me?

Rivaroxaban is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

• if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Rivaroxaban or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
• if you are bleeding or are in risk of bleeding
• if you have a liver disease
• if you are pregnant or breast feeding

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

• have very high blood pressure
• have diseases of your stomach or bowel that might result in bleeding
• have a problem with the blood vessels in your eyes, known as vascular retinopathy
• have liver or kidney problems
• have lung disease (bronchiectasis), or have had bleeding from your lung
• have a prosthetic heart valve
• are pregnant or breast-feeding

Rivaroxaban interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Rivaroxaban?

This medicine is available in form of a film-coated tablet.

You should take Rivaroxaban exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. The usual dose is 15 or 20 mg taken once a day. Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Also, this medicine works best if there is a constant amount in the blood. To help keep this amount constant, do not miss any doses and take the medicine at the same time each day. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose. What are Rivaroxaban side effects?

Like all medicines Rivaroxaban can cause side effects, including:

Common side effects:

• bleeding in the stomach or bowel
• urogenital bleeding
• nose bleed, bleeding in the gum
• bleeding into the eye
• bleeding into tissue or a cavity of the body
• coughing up blood
• bleeding from the skin or under the skin
• bleeding following an operation
• swelling in the limbs
• pain in the limbs
• fever
• reduction in red blood cells
• stomach ache, indigestion
• feeling or being sick
• constipation, diarrhea
• low blood pressure
• weakness, tiredness
• headache, dizziness
• rash, itchy skin
• impaired function of the kidneys
• increase in some liver enzymes​
