This medicine contains the active ingredient tamsulosin is one of the medicines called alpha-blockers. These medicines are used to control some nerve impulses by stopping them. This causes your blood vessel walls to relax and widen. Tamsulosin is prescribed for the treatment of prostate gland enlargement (problems with passing urine, frequent urination). It causes the muscles surrounding the bladder, prostate gland and urethra to loosen up, so that urine is released easily.

Is Tamsulosin suitable for me?

Tamsulosin is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

• if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to tamsulosin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
• if you have serious liver disease  

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

• have liver or kidney problems
• are pregnant or breastfeeding
• have planned eye surgery because of cataract or glaucoma

Tamsulosin interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Tamsulosin?

This medicine is available in form of a modified-release capsule, a prolonged-release capsule and a prolonged-release tablet.

You should take Tamsulosin exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.

• The usual dose is one 0,4 mg tablet/capsule per day.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Also, this medicine works best if there is a constant amount in the blood. To help keep this amount constant, do not miss any doses and take the medicine at the same time each day. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Tamsulosin side effects?

Like all medicines tamsulosin can cause side effects, including:

Common side effects:

• dizziness
• abnormal ejaculation

Uncommon side-effects

• weakness
• headache
• runny or blocked nose
• rapid or irregular heart beat
• nausea and vomiting
• diarrhea or constipation
• rash, itching, redness
• local swelling and breathing problems

Rare side-effects

• fainting
• allergic reaction
